Ocular Coherence Technology

We have invested in a highly innovative instrument called a Cirrus HD-OCT. This instrument never touches your eye so there is no discomfort. It’s safe and only requires a few minutes of your time. Most importantly it helps us to clearly see the internal structures of your eye; allowing problems to be treated before they progress. The unique view we see with the OCT is called a direct cross-sectional image of your retina.

With an OCT scan, we are provided with color-coded, cross-sectional images of the retina. These detailed images are revolutionizing early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as wet and dry age-related macular degeneration, Glaucoma, Retinal Detachment and Diabetic Retinopathy.

What is cross sectional retinal imaging?

Direct cross-sectional imaging is so named because it enables us to look directly at a cutaway view of the layers of the Retina, Optic Nerve, Cornea, Iris and Lens. These images allow us to accurately assess their characteristics. Other machines show the surface of these structures, but the OCT shows us what is below the surface.

With Cirrus OCT’s ability to image the individual layers of the Retina, we can see and measure delicate structures and monitor any changes. OCT imaging is the only technology that provides these cross sectional images; so it’s the ultimate tool for precise diagnosis and treatment. These scans are not covered by Medicare.

We have an OCT in Toowoomba, Roma and Emerald.
